The 17th death anniversary of former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto is being observed today (Friday), with the main commemoration taking place at Garhi Khuda Bakhsh.
Preparations for the event are complete, with banners and party flags decorating the shrines of martyrs and the surrounding areas. Carpets have been laid out for attendees, and walk-through gates have been set up at the shrine’s entrances for security purposes.
Key leaders from the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), including Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari and former President Asif Ali Zardari, have arrived in Larkana to participate in the anniversary observances.
Benazir’s Assassination
Benazir Bhutto was tragically assassinated in a gun and bomb attack while leaving an election rally at Liaquat Bagh in Rawalpindi, just weeks before Pakistan’s 2007 general elections. The attack claimed her life and many of her supporters, profoundly impacting the country’s political scene.
Her death led to widespread unrest, with riots and arson causing significant damage. Benazir Bhutto remains a globally admired figure, celebrated for her steadfast dedication to democracy and her political contributions and sacrifices, which continue to be recognized worldwide.
