Islamabad: President Dr. Arif Alvi has granted approval for the appointment of three judges to the superior judiciary.
Under Article 175-A of the Constitution, Chief Justice of the Balochistan High Court, Naeem Akhtar Afghan, has been appointed to the Supreme Court.
Additionally, in accordance with Article 196 of the Constitution, President Alvi has endorsed the appointment of the senior-most judge, Justice Muhammad Hashim Khan Kakar, as the caretaker Chief Justice of the BHC.
Furthermore, Justice Malik Shehzad Ahmed Khan, the senior-most judge of the Lahore High Court, has been appointed as the Chief Justice in accordance with Article 175(A) of the Constitution. This appointment follows the retirement of former LHC CJ Muhammad Ameer Bhatti, who reached the age of superannuation on Thursday. A formal sendoff was organized in honor of the outgoing chief justice at the Judges Lounge, attended by Chief Justice-designate Malik Shahzad Ahmad Khan and other judges from the principal seat.
Moreover, Justice Khan is scheduled to take the oath as chief justice on March 8 (Friday) during a ceremony at the Governor House.
