Dense fog has caused major travel disruptions, with key motorways being closed.

The National Highways and Motorway Police have temporarily closed several motorway sections due to dense fog, which has significantly reduced visibility and posed a risk to public safety. The closures, as confirmed by spokesperson Imran Ahmed, include sections of the M-2, M-3, and M-4 motorways. Specifically, the M-2 is closed from Thokar Niaz Baig to Hiran Minar, the M-3 from Samundri to Dera Khana, and the M-4 from Pindi Bhattian to Multan.

Authorities have advised the public to avoid unnecessary travel and, if travel is essential, to do so during daylight hours, ideally between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. Drivers are urged to take extra precautions by using fog lights, driving at reduced speeds, and maintaining safe distances from other vehicles.

In addition to the motorway closures, the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued a forecast for cold and dry weather across most regions. The department also warned of extremely cold conditions in hilly areas, particularly during the early morning and night hours. Areas such as Islamabad, Potohar, and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa may experience frost, while smog and fog are expected to persist in parts of Punjab, upper Sindh, and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, particularly during the early morning and late evening hours.

Over the past 24 hours, light rain and snowfall were observed in parts of Punjab, Murree, Galiyat, and Kashmir. This weather is expected to continue affecting the region, contributing to challenging conditions for travelers.

The authorities have urged everyone to stay informed about weather updates and follow the safety guidelines to prevent accidents caused by low visibility.
