Will Shehbaz government complete its term?

Many political analysts and experts are casting doubt about the political future of the newly elected coalition government led by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. They are arguing that Shehbaz government will not be able to complete its 5 Years term. Some politicians are also making statements in this regard and giving different timelines for the fall of this government. Some are even arguing that this government will not last more than six months or a Year.

Even Imran Khan has said to the journalists that he will spend 6 more months in the prison then he will come out and this government will fall. There seem to be two factors that are contributing in this debate. One factor is the alleged rigging in the elections. Some senior journalists and analysts are projecting that after six months a proper inquiry will be held to investigate the alleged rigging in the February 8 Elections.

They are of the opinion that after such an investigation, the PML N government will not be able to survive. It will become so unpopular and controversial as a result of the rigging investigation. It is premature to predict the fall of the government just on the basis of rigging allegations. It never happened before in the history of Pakistan.

The second factor they are considering to developing such a bleak perspective for the Shehbaz Government. In two years time the Shehbaz government will be forced to make the decision weather the government will give an extension to the current army chief General Syed Asif Munir or will appoint a new army chief.

The appointment of an Army Chief in Pakistan is always been a critical issue for every government. But it is too early to predict the future of Shehbaz Sharif government on the basis of this one issue. In my opinion, Shehbaz government will not fall immediately. It will last longer then most analysts are predicting.

A political government in Pakistan always survives until the powerful establishment withdraws its support. Opposition without the help of the establishment never succeeded to bring down a sitting government. It seems that the establishment is likely to provide full support to the collation government. There is no immediate threat to the Shehbaz Government. The economic situation of Pakistan does not allow political destabilization in the country. Pakistan cannot afford chaos and political instability.
