The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has taken strong action against tax evasion by sealing five prominent restaurants in Islamabad for issuing fake invoices. This operation, carried out by the Regional Tax Office (RTO) Islamabad, followed reports from vigilant citizens regarding irregularities, according to an official FBR statement.
The RTO team, led by the Deputy Commissioner, conducted detailed investigations using the FBR’s Point of Sales (POS) tracking software. After confirming the authenticity of the counterfeit receipts, the five restaurants were sealed, and a total fine of Rs. 1.5 million was imposed.
This enforcement is part of the FBR’s broader strategy to bring Tier-1 retailers and restaurants under the tax system via the POS invoicing method. The initiative supports the FBR’s ongoing efforts to promote transparent tax collection and combat tax fraud in the retail sector.
To encourage public participation, FBR launched the Point of Sales Prize Scheme on October 25th, initially targeting Tier-1 restaurants in Islamabad. The scheme will expand nationwide to include all Tier-1 retailers. Citizens who report fake invoices via the Tax Asaan App will be eligible for cash rewards, with verified reports resulting in prizes deposited directly into their bank accounts.
This initiative seeks to combat fake invoicing and ensure accurate tax payments to the national treasury. “FBR is committed to enforcing tax compliance and ensuring effective tax regulation,” the statement emphasized.
The FBR encourages citizens to actively engage in this program to promote a more transparent and accountable tax system.
